Treating Dandruff Naturally

Seborrheic dermatitis, commonly known as dandruff,is a disorder of the scalp. Dandruff is a chronic condition that is also known as Flaky Scalp or Pityriasis Simplex Capitis. This harmless condition takes place when the white flakes of dead skin appear on the shoulders and in the hair.

Causes of dandruff

There are many reasons one may be a victim to dandruff like oily skin, fungus on the scalp, dry skin and skin inflammations. And yes, you guessed it, dandruff can cause a whole lot of itching and worse yet, rampant hair fall.  This embarrassing condition affects people of all ages and 40% of people above the age of 30 years are affected by this condition. Others reasons include uncontrolled multiplication of the skin cells, the oil that comes out of the scalp makes the skin cells clump together and form white flakes on the skin.  Stresses, hormone imbalance, dry or oily skin, eczema and sensitivity to many hair products can all be reasons of dandruff.  The overgrowth of the yeast-like fungus called Malassezia is also one of the contributors for this chronic condition.

Natural remedies for dandruff
Here are some natural and harmless remedies for dandruff cure: –

Olive oil
One of the oldest known natural remedy for dandruff includes the use of olive oil. This can work if your shampoo contains olive oil or gently massaging your hair with this oil. It is important to note the exact time of application of this oil as this can make your hair oily if put on for a longer time.

Tea tree oil
It has fungicidal effects that can kill dandruff causing fungi. Mixing of one tablespoon in warm water and spraying this mixture on your scalp after washing can have amazing effects. Do not wash away your hair after spraying this mixture.

 

Garlic
One of the properties of garlic includes its anti-microbial effect. It is effective in eliminating dandruff causing bacteria from the scalp. Crush garlic and apply its extract on the scalp. To avoid the appalling smell, mix the extract with honey or lemon.

Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera has a cool and soothing effect on the scalp and can remove itching. Before taking a bath rub the gel on your scalp and you can experience a soothing effect.

 

Coconut oil
The medium chain fatty acids present in this oils such as Capric acid and Lauric acid have strong antifungal, antiviral and antimicrobial effects. These properties eradicate and kill the viruses and fungus present in the scalp that causes dandruff.

Neem leaves
This is one of the inexpensive methods to treat dandruff. Loaded with anti-fungal properties, these leaves can help treat the dandruff. In the boiling water add few leaves of Neem and leave it for overnight. Use in the morning to rinse your hair and to avoid dandruff.

 

 

Ginger
This natural antiseptic can retard the growth of bacteria, fungi, and yeast that lead towards dandruff. It can soothe the inflammation of the scalp and the itchy flakes. Mix one teaspoon of ginger oil with one teaspoon of olive oil and gently massage it on your scalp. Leave for overnight for better results.
